Thing 3

I could use a blog in my classroom with Literature Circles.  In addition to my students meeting at the end of the week for a book discussion; I could also require my students to discuss their books through a blog.  I would have my students answer open ended questions about the book they are reading and require them to post a questions and comment on another student's blog.  I think my students would be excited to blog. It would give my timid students an opportunity to be heard and I think it would add an interesting element to Lit. Circles.  One of my concerns with blogging is parental support.  Internet safety is a big concern for parents and some parents may not feel comfortable allowing their child to participate.

***Just thought of this:  I could collaborate with another teacher and our students could read the same books.  Then the students from my class could follow the blogs of the students from the other classroom.

  1. This would be a great spot for the students to blog about their lit. Your concern for safety has been shared. Some parents have their children use their google account. Diane and Kim have begun using a blog, check with them. Blogging will be an excellent way for shy students to participate. I think this will be a great motivator for the students.

  2. Blogging would also be a great way for students to collaborate on the ideas from the lit circle or problem solving in various subject areas.
For the kids who's parents are not ready to let their kids have their own blogs, those students can post on a "blog" put on a classroom wall. Each student can get a Open ID account to use for posting, without having to use a gmail account.

  3. Mrs. Sapielak and I have a parent letter made up asking permission for the students to obtain email accounts for blogging. Would you like a copy to use as a template? It may help you get started.
